LeBron James Wants All-Star Rosters Expanded to Avoid Snubs

by Marcel Mutoni @ marcel_mutoni

There are only 24 spots available on the two NBA All-Star rosters, and every year, fans and media complain about those who they feel were snubbed.

This season, names like Stephen Curry, Marc Gasol, Jamal Crawford, Brook Lopez, Josh Smith, Brandon Jennings, and even JR Smith are being mentioned as those who deserve to play in the big game next month.

LeBron James has a fairly simple solution to resolve the issue: add three All-Star spots per conference. While congratulating his buddies that made it, and lamenting those who weren’t invited, James proposed expanding the All-Star field to 30.

Per LBJ’s Twitter:

Congrats the all the All-Stars this year! Well deserved and especially S/O to the 1st timers! Don’t air ball that 1st shot. Hahaha.

Always believe there should be 15 on both rosters so there’s no snubs. #East- B.Jennings, J Smooth, PP #West- S.Curry, J.Crawford, M.Gasol.

The NBA occasionally takes steps to make sure the most deserving players take part in the mid-season showcase — the center position was eliminated on All-Star ballots this season, for instance.

LeBron James’ proposal makes sense, and the League would be wise to strongly consider it going forward.

the idea that Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings were snubbed is laughable.
    .
Horford has been better than Smith. —> look it up.
Brandon Jennings is literally the most detrimental player to his roster (+/- wise)

  • Lorne

Someone will always be snubbed. I thought Lebron had learned by now that you can’t please everyone. If anything I agree with some guys that maybe the players should have a say.

The All-Star Reserves and the All-Defensive teams for the past few years clearly demonstrate that the coaches are lazy voters. Not all of them put thought into selecting players.

  • JML-G

the King is once again right!

  • spit hot fiyah

his idea won’t solve the problem because there will still be snubbs and it also means less playing time for each all star, which i’m pretty sure no one of them is wiling to accept

  • spit hot fiyah

i think that caling josh smith a sub has just become habitual. the lasrt couple of years he was snubbed, but now he is actually having somewhat of a down year but people don’t recognize that

  • roscoe

idk… if the games’ beast says they belong i don’t think it is laughable.

i don’t agree w/ him that expanding the roster is a good idea.

  • Redd

Doesn’t mean it’s the law of the land, people are wrong at times. In this instance..definitely. He said PP was a snub.

  • Redd

If the rosters are extended, then the next thing will be fans complaining about the minutes for their All-Stars.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i am 100% sure i watch more basketball then LeBron does man.

  • http://twitter.com/niQknacks niQ

There will still be people being snubbed.

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

Horford has been more consistent overall, Smith needs to go to another team who’ll show him love, until then he won’t get picked up for the allstar game. I really hope they trade him at the deadline though.

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

Yeah we’ll just keep expanding till the title of All star isn’t even valuable anymore, good job Lebron

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

they already do that. you were complaining about Deng’s minutes yesterday.

  • TBRK

J Smoove was snubbed like a mug last year…

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

that’s fine. but that doesn’t mean he deserves it this year.

  • robb

I don’t like that no center crap. Marc and Brook would’ve made the all star game if not for their “creative” new ideas

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

Well Deng literally played like 2 minutes or something.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    i am aware

  • Redd

Point being, instead of rosters it’ll be minutes.

I more so complained that I hope he gets more minutes. He played for exactly 3 seconds, I mean literally 3. It was MAYBE justified being that it was his first time.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

it’ll be both. you make the rosters bigger, you make the field of eligible player’s bigger.
    .
people, clearly, already complain about minutes.
    .
both problems will be persistent even if they had 6 players.

  • http://twitter.com/thursti_tyht Thurstian Tsui

That almost makes it worse that he played 3 seconds in his first game, but given Deng’s minutes during the regular season and all his little injuries, Thibs probably didn’t want to risk it.

  • Redd

He didn’t play 3 secs, I just attempted to troll nbk & failed.

So I kind’ve just suck. I feel like the little white kid from “The Middle”. But yeah you pointed out what I overlooked. Thibs was coaching & didn’t want to work Deng.

There will be snubs every year, regardless.Even If they increase the roster to 50 total, people will always dispute about player B deserving that final 25th spot on the team more than player A.

  • Redd

All I know is we’ll always complain no matter what.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mike-Gilbert/100001749589586 Mike Gilbert

or we could you know…just not snub people

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

    exactly

  • http://twitter.com/_DFrance DFrance

Leave it at 12 and have a league wide 3 on 3 tournament with the non all stars

  • blackthought

if you feel cheated – play better next year & you`ll be voted in – mvp level play will be recognized!

  • ByAnyMeansNecessary

I want LeBron to take that final shot this year to try and win the game if he has it instead of passing it like he did last year. The whole arena wanted him to take the shot including his teammates and Kobe after he took over the 2nd half. Shoot the J LeBron.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

He may watch just as much, only in different context. Where you or I may watch a game in it’s entirety, he may be watching replays and slow-mos of his next opposing player’s offence or next opposing team’s defense over and over.

  • pposse

deng reinjured his wrist like two weeks before the asg last year i thought

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Andrea-Cavalli/757338131 Andrea Cavalli

People would find a way to complain regardless, no matter if there were just 2 roster spots or 100 spots. I mean, I have read a few comments today and there were people up in arms over players like Steve Nash or Dirk Nowitzki (who played a very limited number of games this season) or Kevin Love (who’s out for at least another month or two) being- THEIR words- “snubbed”. When everyone has a different concept of “all-star” you’ll never be able to make everyone happy, no matter how many roster spots available there are. Fans see what they want to see. Besides, I still can’t believe there are so many people out there who wanted 3-4 Lakers players on the all-star team this season, despite their very poor record, even at the expense of players who are playing really great and who are on some of the best teams in the league. When you have fans like that, you won’t ever be able to please everyone.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i understand, but in the context of which players are literally producing and playing better then others, (which takes watching the game as it happens) there is just no possible way LeBron can watch as much as the “dedicated” fan.
    .
    I don’t have to travel.
    .
    I don’t have to play.
    .
I don’t have to prepare for anything.
    .
I just watch. And watch. and watch.

  • roscoe

there is no doubt you do… we’ve all seen your sash w/ merit badges.

  • roscoe

don’t forget your cheetos… you eat and eat and eat.

  • roscoe

    fools are wrong… not ppl!

  • Redd

Does that make Bron a fool?

The only fool is the man who believes himself never to be wrong.

  • Da-Meat-Hook

    Very true

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

i am getting fat though. but i blame that on my daughter.

  • roscoe

    lol…

  • roscoe

bron bron speaks for himself… and we are all fools at times…

either Roosevelt or Churchill said if they could be correct 55% of the time they would be right more than almost every1.

too bad that doesn’t work for FTs.

  • Redd

    Deandre.

  • LakeShow

I’d like Smith over Horford. His shooting % are bad, but everything else is so good.
Plus it’s an ALL STAR game. Smooth is the guy the fans wanna see slamming the ball on a coast to coast.

  • http://twitter.com/sooperfadeaway nbk

Horford has just been SOOOOO much better offensively.
    .
But the All-Star game argument is really the best one. As Smith hasn’t been better by any stretch, but he’s definitely more entertaining.

  • deception is the only felony

well the snub of J-Smoove pretty much makes it official that he won’t be there next year

Btw Brook Lopez is literally the biggest snub.

Agreed that it should be 15 and 15, but not with PP on the East.

  • Caboose

Wasn’t it 2 seconds the other day?

Then argue. And argue. And argue.

    Then get trolled.

    Get frustrated.

    Prove point.

    Log off feeling victorious.
