Fired Byron Scott Says He Didn’t Get a Fair Shake in Cleveland

As expected, the Cleveland Cavaliers let head coach Byron Scott go yesterday. The process to find a new coach is already under way, but Scott (who was fired after three disappointing seasons) alleges that the Cavs’ front-office didn’t give him a real shot to turn things around. Per the Plain Dealer: “I’m disappointed, more than anything,’ Scott said. ‘I don’t think I got a fair shake.’ Scott was informed of his firing on Thursday morning, after the team lost 16 of its last 18 games to finish this season 24-58. That gave him a three-year record of 64-166. He said he spent several hours at the Cavs practice facility in Independence on Thursday, exchanging words, hugs and tears with players before leaving about 2 p.m. He expects to return to his home in California on Saturday, but will come back at least once to pack up his office. ‘I’ll land on my feet,’ he said. [...] Scott took the job in the summer of 2010 not knowing whether LeBron James would remain. When James left for Miami, Scott was left with a major rebuilding job that was expected to take three to five seasons, and he was assured he’d have the time to complete it. But his tenure was marred by injuries to key players, including Anderson Varejao, who never played more than 31 games in any of Scott’s three seasons, and Kyrie Irving. Without Varejao as their anchor, the Cavs struggled defensively all season and were last in the league as far as opponent field-goal percentage, a key factor is Scott’s dismissal.”

“a fair shake” doesn’t exist in coaching. that’s like wishing for a unicorn for your birthday.

… he should take a discount and offer his services to LA. Great coach, Laker for Life. Had a bad roster in Cleveland.

3 years….Not many jobs let you stay on board after you dick away 3 years…and showing no real signs of light? and the arrow still pointing down…?

Cleveland’s treatment of Scott is the height of ignominy (look it up). He should write an open letter in “comic sans.”

Scott can coach, but Cleveland had three players worth anything on their roster and that is Kyrie, Waiters and Vaerijou and Waiters is a PUSH!!

man, people forget about the job he did in NJ wit the nets. the young kids today dont remember that, they think he was always a losing coach.

Well Don’t bother comng to World famous Cleveland Clinic Heart Center either. Have your heart surgery at some third class joint from the dive you come from.

  • JML-G

u know ur city sucks when only thing u can be proud of is a clinic lmao

  • TV63

You’re really ignorant. Royalty, Presidents, Nobel Peace Prize winners, NBA players (Jeff Green) from all over the world come to the Clevand Clinic for life saving procedures. You’re dam right we’re proud. Like I said, don’t come here for any heart issues. Take your chances somewhere else.

YOu are right but that was a long long time ago.

  • TV63

SO then why does he keep getting fired? This is the third team he has been fired from.

  • nike_head

I would really like to see that happen, but if I remember correctly I read that D’Antoni will be back next year.

  • nike_head

And Varejao spent the majority of this season injured.

Yeah, and while your at it, dont come to Nebraska for any of your corn related needs.
