The Miami Heat Squashed Eva Longoria Taunts By Fans

Not too surprisingly, Miami Heat fans tried to distract Tony Parker in Game 2 of the NBA Finals by using large posters of his ex-wife, Eva Longoria. Team security quickly put a stop to it, though Longoria appears to still be a San Antonio Spurs fan. Per the Miami Herald: “Somebody brought Heat fans the heads of Eva Longoria for Sunday’s Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Then, security collected those heads after a few minutes. The reason for Longoria’s head on a stick? A potential distraction for San Antonio star point guard and Longoria ex-husband Tony Parker when he got to the free-throw line. Memphis fans carried the oversized Longoria heads during their team’s Western Conference final loss to San Antonio. [...] Heat spokesman Tim Donovan said: ‘Someone who paid to go attend the game [at AmericanAirlines Arena] brought them and were handing them out. He asked members of the Xtreme Team to hand them out, which they did. Until we saw what was going on, then we stopped it. We said, ‘No, we’re not doing this.’”

Meh. I guess its classy, but I don’t see the signs as crossing the line.

kind of off topic. but what’s up with the scheduling. everyone hates the 2-3-2 format. but why was there 2 rest days between games 1 and 2, and only one rest day between games 2 and 3 when the teams have to travel in between those two games.

  • pposse

Finals schedule is always Sunday Tuesday Thurs.

The Heat went to game 7 the series before forcing the first game of the finals to be played on Thurs June 5. If they won in 6 i think the finals would have started on the Tuesday June 3.

ok if it’s predetermined then that would explain it. but really how hard can it be for the league to modify the schedule? same thing with the east finals, they started really late

  • Dfrance

Nah, the Finals started on June 6th and it was gonna start on June 6th regardless of when the Conference Finals ended.

  • pposse

i think there is some sort of contract in place with ABC where the finals has to be placed in some sort of window no matter what. From what i can remember i hardly ever remember the finals going past June 20.

  • pposse

well damn if thats the case, thats really unfortunate for both teams. They both travel right after a sunday night game and don’t get a full days worth of practice. Kind of sucks.

  • spit hot fiyah

if that’s true then it completely sucks. give the guys the extra rest when they have to travel, not when they are just sitting around waiting for the next game. very weird.

  • Dfrance

Yeah if you notice, they always do promos like “The Finals, coming June 6th.” It has a predetermined start date every year.

I assume the arenas have other obligations as well. Concerts, political events, etc that the NBA can’t push out or move.

  • spit hot fiyah

you are right, extremely weird to me

I think it has something to do with the Stanley Cup.

  • MARCUS

except for the people sitting behind those huge heads.

  • dannyb

If they really wanted to distract Tony Parker, they should have brought posters of Brent Barry’s wife.

  • Dfrance

That an unfortunate part of the crowd experience tho. Huge signs, foam fingers, etc are annoying for those behind them, but they aren’t outlawed. Miami just did this because they thought it was insensitive to Parker.

  • Ugh

The replies to Eva’s “Go Spurs” Tweet are appalling. Calling someone an “ugly b^%ch” because she cheers the other team is just jealous hating.
