NBAers React to Cancellations

Part two. A #tweetcap.

Another week, another set of awful news. After Thursday’s meetings concluded with an announcement that the owners and union were relatively close to a deal—within “striking distance,” to be precise—Friday’s negotiations ended without a smile in sight. A disagreement regarding the proper way to split up the NBA’s Basketball Related Income left the two sides in a stalemate, forcing David Stern to officially cancel all of November’s remaining regular season games. In the subsequent few hours, the League’s best hit Twitter, venting their frustration and anger to anyone willing to listen read along. Roll through the gallery above to see how your favorite NBAers reacted to this unpleasant set of events, including a hell of a rant from Thunder big man Nazr Mohammed.

With a Month lost, I know have lost my faith in the NBA. With the cancellation news I have just spent my NBA League Pass Money on an NCAA Basketball Subscription. For the first time in years, I won’t watch over 100 NBA Games in a Season. I will not be buying any merchandise. I feel totally let down by the League, the Owners, and the Players involved in the negotiations.

    RIP the NBA

‘the thugs be the ones in the suit’ you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. The owners came in wanting to make a deal, they have been at 47% for weeks (originally lower) and went up to 50%, meanwhile Billy Hunter and the players have been sat on 52% forever and wont budge for the sake of 2% and getting the thing resolved. The ‘thugs’ by which i assume you mean the people doing the damage, are people with snap judgments and knee jerk points of view based on stereotype. The players and Bhunter are as guilty as greed and childishness as much as anyone.

  • tomtom

What a shock, most of the tweets are pro player/anti stern(owners) way to play to your demo SLAM.

  • Ben Ireland

You know the tweets are from players right?
    Obviously they’d be pro-players…
    And the thugs tweet… Also from a player… Yeahhhh…

    SMH at JT lol

Nazr Nohammed has some good tweets in there. Marshon Brooks however…. love the guy but I don’t know if repeating “thugs” over and over again is smart.

  • http://twitter.com/Sylvanusuagbor Syl

Most of these guys tweets have no barring to them. Nazr’s were insightful. Calling exec’s thugs and they are PAYING you is stupid, but I think Marshon Is a ROOKIE? But whatever

  • http://www.twitter.com/gerardhimself Gerard Himself

Agreed Syl. I’m a Nets fan and glad this kid is joining the team, but let’s just say he tweeted out of emotion. Again, calling them thugs isn’t that bright. Mohammed and Dudley actually provide some insight for the fans.

HAHAHAHAHAHA shouts out to Marshon Brooks!!!!!

  • robb

    f*cking thing sucks!

  • http://thetroyblog.com Teddy-the-Bear

F*ck it! We’ll do it live!

@tomtom, I think it is fair to call owners greedy and “the thugs”. The players have been the one who lose, regardless of what happens because they have to drop. They were at 57%, they are being forced to drop and they have gone all the way down to 52%. Stern is making it seem like the owners are giving the players a break by going from his ‘owners get 53%’ down to a 50/50 split. You can see how that isn’t owners making a concession though right? They don’t have those percentage points to give up in the first place. Regardless of what percentage it ends at, the owners are winning while the players lose.

  • http://www.dropstep.com rubens

@tomtom basically, the owners are like “hey, we get 47% now, but we’ll give in and be ok with getting 50%. See, we’re making concessions”

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

What is tomtom talking about? The players are the only ones making concessions. They are the ones that agreed to drop from 57% of the BRI all the way down to 52% while the owners, who were at 43% of the BRI in the previous CBA, are now asking for a 7% increase. So tell me who the greedy ones are? Typical uninformed fan just like the rest on every other sports website that are blaming the players for being “greedy” because they refuse to sit down and read what every article regarding the lockout has been saying.

  • EtheKnickfan

People say players are greedy because they are jealous of player salaries. The owners, however, have deeeeep pockets. Besides if this were an average job like say walmart, and this happened, the workers would be quite upset. Saying a player makes up for it with endorsements is unfair also.

  • blakos

    Uncle Tomtom

  • http://www.offthebackboard.wordpress.com Off The Backboard

First of all, half the rookies that post these tweets are ridiculously immature. Have something better to say than “smh” or calling guys in suits “thugs”. What? Man, I thought I’d be a Marshon Brooks fan (since he has been compared to Kobe in the past in terms of his game), but reading his dumba*ss posts, I think I’ll pass. What an idiot.

  • http://cnbc.com JTaylor21

Sure he’s the “idiot” for speaking his mind but you’re the “intellectual” for insulting him?

  • http://www.twitter.com/hurstysyd Hursty

@tomtom – that 2% is $100 million dollars per season. That’s $1Billion a decade. For the players, that %$ is far more important than it is for the owners.

  • One

Apprently Kobe and Fish are willing to go for the 50/50 split but players such as pierce and Garnett are against it which is holding up the deal!

  • MikeC.

Nazr had some good stuff to say. On point. The rest….not even close to “how u”.

  • http://slamonline.com The Black Rick Kamla

those calling Marshon “stupid” have ABSOLUTELY no clue, and I’d rather not waste any time trying to brief you….them tweets were strokes of genius lolololol, he’s already one of my favorite players now

  • http://www.twitter.com/TheDiesel Anton

    LOL @ Teddy

  • Justin

Uhhh…of course the players are coming down because they’ve been getting way too much for way too long. The owners were taking 43%!!! Sorry, but it’s about time for these players to realize that they’d be working the deli at the local supermarket if it weren’t for the NBA. These guys are a joke
