Jameer Nelson’s Game 1 Status

by Ryne Nelson

Players thought Jameer Nelson would play. Stan Van Gundy thought he was a go. Team doctors ruled he was alright physically. Even Jameer Nelson thought it he’d be on court for Game 1 against the Lakers.

But for unknown reasons Nelson will not play tonight, and probably still miss the Finals entirely. Brian reports:

The Magic have decided to hold out point guard Jameer Nelson for tonight’s opening game of the NBA Finals against the Lakers, sources tell the Sentinel, and the chances of him playing at any point of the series is slim.

Is this as big of a deal as it sounds? Probably not. But a loud minority has argued Magic are such underdogs that bringing back Nelson might be worth the possible chemistry explosion. Stay tuned for more on why the Magic are opting to dress Jameer in street clothes tonight.

As those who are watching the game can see, Jameer is playing.

    no surprise here.

It will be a Jameer-ical if he comes back.

With or without him, LA in 4. The only thing in favor of Orlando is the Van Gundys against Phil Jackson. 2 heads are always better than one.

Rafer is playin good ball, why try to get Jameer back this late in the year and take a chance on his long term health? It makes no sense man.

I’d dress him with no intention of playing him just to mess up with the Lakers. Ty Lue is gonna disagree?

anthony johnson just creamed his pants.

Let the Magic go down 2-0 and see his chances of playing rocket up.

Rafer is playing well because the Cavs opted to leave him open and take their chances. Jameer is much better than Rafer and makes you change your gameplan entirely.

they should sit him for game 1 and 2- then bring him back in game 3 at home. i dont see how this wouldnt work!

play on the road w/ the squad youve been rolling with the entire playoffs- try to steal one in LA, then the emotional boost from jameer’s return @ home would almost force you to win a game in orlando.

Bad idea to bring him back. He’s not a 100% and this is not the regular season. He would have to come back and handle the final’s pressure as soon as he hits the court. I got love for Jameer but this is just impossible !! He should have come back earlier and get hit with a couple of pressure packed moments than I would say that having him back is aiight. At this level you can’t gamble with your chances and I think that Orlando’s chances are better if the squad remains just the way it is. But I’m not a member of Orlando’s front office. At the end of the day this remains their call !

Lakers in 4, huh? The same Lakers that went seven with Houston and five with Utah? Good luck with that, sport.

I’m tellin ya’ll whether Jameer plays or not, this is gonna be a closer series than people thinks its gonna be. I still feel like the Magic can pull this off. I’ve seen it happen time and time again in sports, when everybody counts a team out, thats just extra motivation. I would not be suprised one bit if Orlando beat them.

The Promiise, what once in game 4?

  • http://allanzuss@yahoo.com Mendel

ESPN just reported he is suiting up, I hope this does not turn out to be a slam blooper

  • Remo Williams

Im from the future (about 19 months) and i know the lakers win in 5. If that changes it most likely because ive altered/ruptured the time line from my means of time traveling. Watch out for the bobcats next season, dont wanna spoil the suprise for yall.

  • http://http//www.youtube.com The Promise

Mendel: He looked awful good to me, thats all I know, and, do you really want to put a guy in the Finals that hasnt played in what, 5 months, and he could still be too injured to do much good? Alston is averaging 12 a game, shooting 35 percent from the 3 point line, and is averaging 1 turnover a game. Thats pretty good ball to me. He’s doing a good job getting shots for everybody also, and that can be difficult, with as many shooters as Orlando has.

  • Morales

ESPN has on the homepage that the magic activated him for tonights game and he is going to suit up

no suprise. I seriously doubt that JN will have a willis reed moment. better luck next season j-meer.

  • JoeMaMa

ESPN just broke a story that Mr. Miyagi did the whole rubbing-my-hands-now-you’re-better thing on Jameer’s shoulder!

  • KOBE#24

UMMM looks like J.nelson just Slammed on Slam mag cause hes in game.

  • http://www.hibachi20.blogspot.com Hursty

    Well that was a fail. He’s got 2pts and 3 assists in 4 minutes…

  • Dave

I get it you guys were just building up suspense!!

  • rob

they still lost ughhh i jus hope bringing him back doesnt ruin team chemistry. and again kobe is getting ALL the superstar calls

  • http://sportzin.com Joey E.

oh rob, don’t start. magic shot more freethrows than L.A. did. Maybe he did disrupt some things, AJ was playing great backing up Rafer, and he didnt see the court at all. Nelson was good for that little stretch then it was 5 on 4 Lakers

  • http://ibuzzunlimited.com T Williams

Rafer’s Confidence is Gone! Jameer is worried about his career and the fame. But the series is over because they don’t trust themselves with what they have. Rafer stepped up big despite the criticism and got them to the finals and look what they do to him.Anthony Johnson played huge minutes. The Magic deserves to lose, they have no loyalty. I can’t push a team like that.

  • B Hornberger

I agree T Williams. I kept hoping it was a token move so Jameer could say he played in the Finals. It did not make sense to mess with a working formula. I am disgusted. I don’t know if they can get this one back.

  • http://nationofmillions.ca ciolkstar

Jameer played great, especially early on. But I wonder if his reinsertion has disrupted the Magic’s offensive flow a bit. I didn’t see nearly as much of that Hedo-Shard high pick and roll that was so deadly in the ECF.

  • truthteller

Jameer played well but did it really make a difference last night? And will it really make a difference in this series? I…don’t think so…

  • http://weezyleezy337@aol.com Weezy F. Baby

inconsistent. just wait till he gets his legs cuz he played good. rafer played aight…he was bangin 3′s agaiunst the cavs so where that at? lakers in 5 still

  • http://www.basketballjerseyworld.com nba-jersey-king

they shouldnt play Nelson even if he is 100% healthy – if it aint broke….
