Baron Davis: ‘I Think I Have a Lot Left. I Feel Young’

Baron Davis has a bad back and there’s no telling when he’ll finally be able to suit up for his new team, but fear not New York Knicks fans, your bearded point guard claims to have plenty of tread left on his basketball tires. From the Bergen Record: “The Cavaliers waived Davis last week through the amnesty provision. The 12-year veteran said he decided if he cleared waivers he wanted to play in New York. His arrival likely means Toney Douglas’ job as the starting point guard will be a temporary one. Davis has averaged 16.5 points and 7.3 assists in 806 NBA games with the Hornets, Warriors, Clippers and Cavaliers. D’Antoni hinted Davis would start once he’s healthy. ‘I think that will play out over the next month or so,’ D’Antoni said. ‘I see him being a vital part, that’s for sure. We are talking about one of the better point guards in the league. … You can guess as well as I can.’ D’Antoni said Douglas and current backup point guard Mike Bibby could play with Davis. D’Antoni likes having that flexibility and versatility. His system also is suited for Davis, a good pick-and-roll player Davis has been known to look for his shot first, but said he’s fine playing ‘the facilitator role’ and setting up Anthony and Stoudemire. The hardest part for Davis is not being able to play. ‘I think I have a lot left,’ Davis said. ‘I feel young. When I do hit that floor, I know it’ll be a special thing, and I’m going to play with my heart.'”
