Brooklyn Nets Player Questioned Following an Alleged Sexual Assault (UPDATE)

by January 08, 2013

Philadelphia police are investigating an alleged sexual assault at a hotel last night, and a member of the Brooklyn Nets was questioned. For what it’s worth, Andray Blatche posted a message on Twitter today denying any involvement. Nets GM Billy King released a statement acknowledging the investigation and stressed that all Brooklyn players are available for tonight’s game against the Sixers. The victim of the alleged assault, a 21-year old woman, was taken to a local hospital at 4 a.m. Per the Philly Daily News: “Police are investigating a report that a 21-year-old woman was raped overnight at the Four Seasons hotel in Center City. The assault allegedly occurred about 3:30 a.m. in the posh hotel located at 18th and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. A woman was taken to the hospital for care, and special-victims investigators are questioning people. A Brooklyn Nets player is among those police have questioned, but a police source said he appears to be a potential witness and not a suspect. The Nets are in town to play the 76ers at the Wells Fargo Center tonight. Brooklyn Nets General Manager Billy King said: ‘We are aware of the ongoing police investigation regarding a member of the Brooklyn Nets. We will have no further comment until the investigation has concluded. All of our players are available for tonight’s game.'”

UPDATE: The player that was questioned was big man Andray Blatche. Via the NY Times: “The Nets’ Andray Blatche has been questioned by the Philadelphia police in connection with an accusation of sexual assault at the team’s hotel early Tuesday morning. There is no indication that Blatche himself has been accused of any wrongdoing. No one has been charged in the case, the police said, and the investigation is continuing. The police would not confirm that a Nets player had been questioned, but the Nets acknowledged it in a statement, and Blatche took the matter public on his Twitter account. ‘Im ok and I didn’t do anything jus was n the area when it happened,’ Blatche wrote at 12:21 p.m. The Nets are in Philadelphia for a 7 p.m. game against the 76ers.”
