Danny Granger Out Three Weeks With Injured Calf (UPDATE)

UPDATE: The Pacers say that Granger will miss approximately the next three weeks due to his left strained calf: “The length of time is a precautionary measure as the team wants to ensure Granger is physically ready to play in light of missing all but five games last season due to his knee injury. The rehabilitation time is strictly related to the calf injury.”

As expected, the Indiana Pacers will begin their season sans Danny Granger, who’s out with a strained left calf. Per the team website: “Pacers forward Danny Granger continues to be bothered by strained left calf and it’ll keep him out at least the first two games, Pacers coach Frank Vogel declared Sunday after practice. The Pacers open the regular season on Tuesday against the Orlando Magic, and then they play in New Orleans on Wednesday. ‘He’s just doing some light shooting and stuff,’ Vogel said. ‘As long as he’s feeling anything down there, [the training staff is] going to be cautious with it.’ This wasn’t exactly surprising. Vogel said on Friday that Granger was unlikely to play in the season opener. Rasual Butler keeping his non-guaranteed roster spot is partially because of the uncertainty surrounding Granger’s health. They want to make sure that they have enough depth at the wing spot. Granger’s role will be filled by a number of guys.”
