Michael Jordan: Bobcats a ‘Destination’ for Free Agents

MJ, ever the salesman, says top free agents should seriously consider joining him in Charlotte. The Observer reports: “Michael Jordan tells Charlotte what it desperately wants to hear. ‘I like to think that we’re one of the teams that’s a destination,’ he says. Jordan, who owns the Charlotte Bobcats, is talking about being a destination for free agents. He is talking about free agents who perform CPR on franchises. He’s talking about stars who change everything. Jordan can’t talk about players by name, not when they are paid to play for another team. But North Carolina native Chris Paul, a star point guard for New Orleans, is the first to come to mind. Sign Paul and everybody says, Wow. Jordan is serious. If Charlotte’s young players develop and it drafts well – the Bobcats have two first-round picks – it could be slightly above average, next season. It could be all right. It could be pretty good. If the Bobcats add the right talent through free agency, they could be more. They could be exciting. And they will have money to invest. Will they? ‘I don’t want people to think we’re not willing to spend,’ says Jordan. ‘I want to spend money for a team that’s going to get us in the top four (in the Eastern Conference), the top three.'”
