Quincy Miller Commits to Baylor

by Ryne Nelson

By now, you should know the name… Quincy Miller, SLAM’s High School Diarist and No. 1 player in the Class of 2010, will be taking his talents to Baylor next season.

The 6-10 forward, who patterns his game after Kevin Durant, narrowed his field to five schools in his latest SLAMonline diary earlier in the month, and quickly made it a three-horse race between Duke, Baylor and Louisville.

Deuce Bello, Q’s close friend and fellow Top 50 recruit, also announced today that he will be joining the Bears next season in Waco, TX.

Even with LaceDarius Dunn’s season in question, the Bears should contend for the top spot in the Big 12 as well as challenge for the National Championship. SLAM HS All-American Perry Jones may realize his pro potential after just one season, but look for the Bears to stay very relevant for a long time.

In addition to Q and Deuce’s commitment, Baylor already has a verbal from arguably the best big man in the Class of 2012 in Isaiah Austin.

Quincy, Deuce, Stargell Love, Isaiah Austin, if these guys can stay together we could be talking about a powerhouse for the next few years

Should have went to A&M….they always have a good strong team and have been makin it to NCAA tournament and I always have them as my Dark Horse team….but i guess Baylor will be better this year the Mens and Womens team will be a tough handle for anyone in the BIG 12

Was it Tyreke Evans? Baylor gave his AAU coach the strength and conditioning coach position hoping to lure his one and done services that way. THIS SMELLS FISSSSSHHHHYYYY JUST LIKE ‘REKE…. Like Calipari/O.J. fishy. Hope the one year of national exposure is worth the 3 years of probation and years of public scrutiny…

@shu…..dude Tyreke went to Memphis not Baylor…..and I believe you ment Tim Floyd not Calipari….don’t watch too much college ball huh

@TBRK: From http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/aug/26/freshman-tyreke-evans-trainer-join-tiger-basketbal/ “The notion of “package deals” has been at the forefront of the recruiting scene lately. Baylor recently hired Dwon Clifton, the AAU coach of top-ranked point guard John Wall, to a staff position. Wall is still considering Memphis along with Baylor and other schools.” So Baylor was trying to “buy” John Wall, not Tyreke. Memphis and Calipari had the highest bid for Evans. And no I don’t watch college basketball because the system is absolute garbage. I don’t blame these kids at all for taking the money whether ligitimate or not because it’s only a miniscule fraction of the revenue their services produce. Seriously, who outside of the local population has ever rocked a Baylor jersey? Who’s ever watched them on national TV? Now it will be fashonable when Miller makes it to the pros. And the alumni foundation and booster clubs are already pimping Quincy Miller for donation$$$ for millions thanks to this high school senior. Will Miller see a dime? F*(k the NCAA.

Miller and Bello are good kids who are in the hands of bad men. Don’t get me wrong, maybe this is just the way things are done now a days but with a kid like Miller, he will be a star and an adequate player in the NBA. The problem is so many of these teenagers are poisoned by these handlers and agents. These kids aren’t kids but traded commodities. What happened to going to college to enjoy it and, well I don’t know; learn something? These one and zones are the most sought after kids around. They get plugged full of praise and little boys are made into rich spoiled boys and never graduate As Men. Get rid of the eligibility rule or age limit in professional basketball. Seriously, it is messing up the ameteur sport of collegiate basketball. Tennis players go pro at 14. Why have this ridiculous restraint?
