JayVaughn Pinkston Suspended For Season

Villanova’s frontcourt took a huge hit today as the school announced that freshman forward JayVaughn Pinkston will be suspended for the spring semester, meaning he will be out for the entire season. Pinkston was involved in an off-campus incident just prior to the beginning of the season and had yet to play a game for the Wildcats. The McDonald’s All-American will now have to wait until next year for his first collegiate game. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports:

Villanova coach Jay Wright said he supported the university’s decision.

“JayVaughn understands that there are consequences to his actions,” Wright said in the statement, “and I believe he will contiue to handle this in a mature manner. We look forward to his return in June.”

Pinkston also was quoted in the statement as saying: “I am sorry. This situation is my responsibility and I have learned from it. I am going to work extremely hard to that I can return to the Villanova family in June.”

    Damn, this sucks

The punishment seems a little strict, but I respect the University for not granting leniency just because he is an athlete. Kind of rare these days.

Not sure what he did but is it twice as bad as calling recruits, lying about having them and their parents over for a party? That only warrants an 8 game suspension. I’m just saying!

What an idiot. I live in NY and I watched this kid play in HS. So talented, but so immature.

Who? And what did he do?

In no way defending JayVaughn but isn’t a suspension for the semester (and thus for the whole season) slightly premature? He has been charged with assault but has he been found guilty yet? What if he gets off the charges? I mean even his statement that it’s his responsibility and he will learn from it is ill advised. His Lawyers (if he has any) must be kicking themselves. I think it would have been better to suspend or better bench him pending the investigation.

Ah well let’s see how it pans out…

As a young, stand-out athlete, sometimes it’s like having a bullseye on your forehead. You need to keep people around you that really care for you and avoid places like bars where alcohol makes things worse. Misery loves company, avoid the miserable a.k.a. Haters. It sounds like he is being accountable for his actions. I wish the young man well.
