Stuckey is Happy the Old Guys are Gone

Without the geezers around to slow things down, the Pistons can now finally get out on the break, says their point guard: “I’m just happy that we’re a younger team now and we can get out and run a lot more,’ Rodney Stuckey said. ‘Acquiring Ben Gordon, Charlie Villanueva and those guys will help me out.’ The addition of Gordon has the potential to fully unlock Stuckey’s abilities. For proof, look at the impact on Bulls rookie point guard Derrick Rose.”

Stuckey better average 10 assists with Gordan and Charlie in town.

  • Eboy Posted: Jul.27 at 11:10 am
Welcome to non-playoff basketball for the next couple of seasons, Rodney. Watch those old guys playing late into May and June as an example of what you should be focusing on in your young career.

  • neaorin Posted: Jul.27 at 11:33 am
    Rodney Stuckey, meet Ben Wallace.

  • Spaceship Jay Posted: Jul.27 at 11:37 am
    Eboy wins.

  • Anton Posted: Jul.27 at 11:45 am
Stuckey later added: “Go shawty, it’s yo birthday
We gon party like it’s yo birthday
We gon sip Baracdi like it’s yo birthday
And if you’re past 30 then we don’t have a sh!t if it’s yo birthday”

  • riggs Posted: Jul.27 at 11:50 am
why does everybody think that they immediately can run everywhere on the floor with young dudes? like the opposition isnt going to force (especially this team) them to slow down.

  • Jukai Posted: Jul.27 at 11:50 am
Uh… How is Rose’s stats used as proof of how valuable Gordon is to a point guard if Rose has NO OTHER YEARS WITHOUT GORDON? What if his stats stayed the same after Gordon lefT? What if they skyrocketed? How stupid…

  • chiqo Posted: Jul.27 at 12:04 pm
my thoughts exactly. this is probably the first time that ben gordon has been credited with making someone he isn’t defending a better player.

  • Statik Posted: Jul.27 at 12:06 pm
cosign Jukai…altho the guy was trying to point out how BG opened up the floor because he can shoot from 3 and penetrate so Rose had more lane to work with. Still don’t see how that helps Stuckey any more since BG likes to control the ball a lot whether he’s on or off

  • Allenp Posted: Jul.27 at 12:07 pm
Jukai, sportwriters don’t get paid for logic.

  • TADOne Posted: Jul.27 at 12:17 pm
    Foot, meet Rodney Stuckey’s mouth.

  • Remo Williams Posted: Jul.27 at 12:25 pm
jukai, have you met my friend sarcasm?

  • Jukai Posted: Jul.27 at 12:29 pm
Remo Williams: I thought the “Gordon improving Rose’s stats” was part of the article, I didn’t realize it was sarcasm on the blogger’s part (Ryne?).
After reading some responses, it seems some people made the same mistake I did.

Im going to kick rodney stuckeys ass the next game I go to the palace!

  • Jukai Posted: Jul.27 at 12:43 pm
Jacob: Has fans getting into fist fights with players become the social norm at the palace?

  • Harrell Posted: Jul.27 at 1:05 pm
    Jacob J please do that

They are WAY younger and will be a WAY faster paced team…that doesn’t necessarily mean wins though…I do like the direction they’re going though. They’ll be good again soon.

  • WhaHos Posted: Jul.27 at 1:24 pm
Stuckey fell off, he appears to be less of a PG than Mayo

  • Prison Mike Posted: Jul.27 at 2:19 pm
I’m glad the Pistons figured out how to build around a non all-star with more non all-stars.

eboy, so youre saying that detroit wont make the playoffs in the east? hahahaha.

  • Anony Mous Posted: Jul.27 at 3:48 pm
I hate how the Pistons are trying to make him a PG… they need to trade Stuck for Flynn… that’d be sick.

  • Eboy Posted: Jul.27 at 4:01 pm
They’ll be lucky to be the tenth seed.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 4:16 pm
Shut up Eboy, this team is at worst the 7th seed in the East…at Best 4th. But 10th? C’mon now, be serious. How is this team any worse than last years?

  • Jukai Posted: Jul.27 at 4:17 pm
wayno: How is watching Ben Gordon and Charlie V fighting over the ball worse than last year? F*ck, I don’t know.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 4:24 pm
I’m pretty sure they played in college just fine together Juk…This team is at least 5-10 wins better than last season’s team.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 4:25 pm
Even if they do “fight over the ball”, it will be nothing like the AI vs RIP debacle last year. If they find someone stupid enough to take RIP’s horrible contract for a big then they’re in business.

  • Anony Mous Posted: Jul.27 at 4:26 pm
    39+10…49?! NO WAY lol

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 4:29 pm
Ok, maybe closer to 5 wins, but regardless, they’ll be better than last years decrepit team.

  • Anony Mous Posted: Jul.27 at 4:35 pm
I don’t know.. The chemisty seems to be coming along but it just seems like there isn’t enough talent at the right positions (dare I say it) to make it above .500%. If they can move Hamilton for a big like Chandler, sure, I’ll give ‘em 45 wins.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 4:41 pm
Ok, but seriously, Rasheed Wallace showed up 1/3 of the time (and not at all in the playoffs), RIP and AI were both having issues with “injuries” and being benched, Dyess was gone for a month, Prince looked absolutely dead by the end of the season, and Michael Curry was the head coach, yet they still pulled off 39 wins. Now they’ve infused some good, young talent, got an unproven, but certainly upgraded coach, and got rid of the locker room cancers (Sheed and AI), which isn’t a diss on them, they are just at the point in thier careers that they don’t fit in with a team liek Detroit anymore. The only player I was sad to see go was Mcdyess because he played his @$$ off.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 4:43 pm
But yes, RIP needs to go if they can get a decent BIG for him.

  • Anony Mous Posted: Jul.27 at 4:50 pm
I get what your saying, but they seem to have the same talent level, just younger. Also, the Pistons won with defense.. now you have Stuck with Gordon and Villaneuva? looks like a team that scores 102 and gives up 103.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 4:56 pm
Defense will most certainly be atrocious, but I think they have enough fire power to be a .500 or above team, and certainly a playoff team in the east. This team’s future develpment hinges on 3 things though.
1.) Stuckey has to take the next step in his development to become a leader
2.) 2 of thier three rookies have to be effective players
3.) They need to trade RIP for a decent BIG. If these things don’t happen we’re looking at a mediocre Pistons team for the next 5 years.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 4:58 pm
I think Ben Wallace could be helpful for the young bigs as a player/coach of sorts. His effective playing days are done though.

  • Anony Mous Posted: Jul.27 at 5:07 pm
2 of their rookies help out? No offense, but do you realize that means either Jerebko or Daye along with Summers needs to be dece? If they had Budinger, I could see it, but I doubt they produce much. Also, I get the stuckey thing. If he turns into Billups, Pistons win for another 10 years, but I highly doubt it. He seems like a Randy Foye.

  • rainman10 Posted: Jul.27 at 5:12 pm
Wait if Sheed showed up only a third of the time, and now he isn’t there, are they any better? I mean Kwame Brown isn’t even 1/3 Sheed.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 5:17 pm
Right, I’m talking future development. Daye and Summers are both looking like legit players. Summers right away, Daye in a few years. Daye will be better than Budinger in 2-3 years time. As for Stuckey, I don’t think he necessarily needs to become the second coming of Billups, he just needs to become somewhat of a leader. He’s shown 0 leadership skills thus far though. I think that’s a direct result of having stubborn old guys on the team and a coach who doesn’t know anything about running an offense. As for this year, Summers will be a more viable backup than Prince has ever had (which isn’t saying that much) and Daye MIGHT be able to contribute a little. Wilcox could possilby be an underrated addition as well. All in all I stand by my claim. This team will be better than last year’s team. They’re a .500 + team.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 5:22 pm
Right rainman, but Detroit picked up CV and Wilcox, that’s easily more than sheed showing up 1/3 of the time. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not arguing that this team will be a juggernaut full of defensive stalwarts, but I think people are under estimating them.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 5:34 pm
It wouldn’t hurt if Kwame could grab 10 boards a game with those brick hands of his either…but who am I kidding…

  • TADOne Posted: Jul.27 at 6:32 pm
    Wayno must be my kin.

  • TADOne Posted: Jul.27 at 6:51 pm
Seriously though, I can see Detroit being a playoff team next season, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they weren’t either. There are a lot of variables that need to happen in order for Detroit to be above .500 and in the playoffs. My short list of variables:
1)Stuckey being a leader and being consistent. I disagree that he hasn’t led at all yet because I believe he leads by his play and hustle, which were both inconsistent last season. He should be better with a year of starting under his belt.
    2) Rip and BG need to co-exist. This is in no way an AI part 2, but both players still have to swallow some pride.
    3) Kuester needs to have control. I know he knows the game and X’s and O’s, but he needs to be in control unlike the last 2 Detroit coaches.
    4) Kwame Brown needs to step up and contribute 10 boards a game. Ok, stop laughing….
    5) Either Daye or Summers or both need to contribute.
    6) Charlie V needs to produce numbers in 36 minutes that he showed he can produce in 26 minutes a game.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 7:06 pm
Hiring Hill was an underrated move for Detroit. He’ll help Kuester out alot.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.27 at 7:09 pm
@ TAD – It would be great if RIP and BG Could coexist, but I just don’t know if it will happen…I don’t see Detroit getting an equally valuable player for RIP either unfortunatly, especially since Chandler and Okafor are swapping places now. Also, I’m really hoping CV turns out to be good with the additionaly minutes. He really needs to grab a few more boards.

  • g 2 da ner Posted: Jul.27 at 8:44 pm
hey rodney ben wallace wants his jersey number back!!

  • B.B.BALLER Posted: Jul.27 at 11:05 pm
Im glad A.I. and SHEED left now Stuckey can take over with Bynum for backup. I think the Pistons have a shot to get to the Eastern Confrence Finals.

  • Teddy-the-Bear Posted: Jul.28 at 12:55 am
Okay, if AI and Richard Hamilton–2 very different players–couldn’t coincide in the same backcourt, how in the world will Ben Gordon and Richard Hamilton? Especially since Ben Gordon and Hamilton are both get their points primarily by the perimeter? I have a feeling Richard is getting shipped.

  • Chukaz Posted: Jul.28 at 3:01 am
I think we are all missing the point here. The real question is which team is better, Pistons or Shock? I’ll take the shock. Katie Smith could ball up stuckey haha Real Talk

  • TADOne Posted: Jul.28 at 10:03 am
Ben Gordon and Rip Hamilton play nothing alike.

  • wayno Posted: Jul.28 at 12:15 pm
@ TAD – They do have a COUPLE similarities, but yes, thier games are completely different. BG can create shots with the best of em’ and is a major 3pt threat. RIP as we all know works well off the ball. THe place where thier talents are similar is that they’re both pretty good at running screens and catching and shooting…RIP is deffinitely better though. My only question about those two coexisting is: Who is gonna be playing at crunch time? BG is way more clutch, but is RIP gonna take that? Are they gonna try to run RIP at the 3 and Prince at the 4 again? That’s when it’s gonna be a mess…

  • cordeazy Posted: Jul.28 at 4:54 pm
    I miss Chauncey :(

  • B.B.BALLER Posted: Jul.28 at 9:56 pm
    I agree cordeazy

  • B.B.BALLER Posted: Jul.28 at 9:59 pm
Why are you so stupid TeddyBEAR!

  • B.B.BALLER Posted: Jul.28 at 10:06 pm
I think Rip will play in front of Prince at crunch time, wayno.

  • jeremy Posted: Jul.30 at 9:25 am
they all the ball to score except rip who can run off screens and that there alf court sets will consist of isos for gordon, charlie v and stuckey
dumars put all his faith in stukey over AI and chauncy thats crazy
ones probably one of the 5 PGs in the league and ones the best scorer of the monden era and he choose stuckey he will be dealt before the all star game

  • rikson Posted: Aug.3 at 10:25 am
Gordon and JV fighting for the ball ?! Have you ever seen Charlie play ball?!

  • Mallawalla Posted: Aug.5 at 4:21 pm
we will see what happens. I’m just glad the season is so close. I’m tired of baseball and golf :(

  • thatdude Posted: Aug.11 at 11:47 am
