Source: Delfino, Ukic for Amir Johnson

It was only a matter of time before the NBA’s most active teams this offseason made a trade: “According to league sources, they are about to finalize a trade that could send swingman Carlos Delfino and point guard Roko Ukic in a two-for-two deal with the Milwaukee Bucks. Young big man Amir Johnson is headed to Toronto but the other component of the deal remains unknown. It’s unclear when the deal will be official but it could be done as early as today or tomorrow.”

Raptors still might not make the playoffs this comming season…

    Welcome to irrelevance, Amir.

  • wassup

Carlos Delfino isn’t on the raptors?

  • maddskizzle

TADOne: Was that a delayed welcome to the Bucks for Amir?

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

So.. he was relevant in Mil-freaking-waukee?! Toronto is definitely an upgrade from Lambeau Field.

  • Ad

Another Pops like player, welcome to the playoffs

  • tavoris

I agree BETCATS, but I do like how they are filling out their roster with young athletic players and shooters. They are doing as much as they can to make Bosh happy (and they have enuf balance and depth now to put the onus of their success squarely on BOSH)

I’m just speaking about 2 teams trading Amir in the matter of months; first Detroit, and then the Bucks. Not exactly sure why Milwaukee didn’t even give him much of a chance?

  • Exile

True… This seems a little out there, given they have revamped a lot already, but it does fill out a younger, more energetic bench, further ridding the team of any trace of last years attitude (only the matrix snapped them out of it) and gives a little bit of insurance that if Bosh does jet… the front court doesn’t end up with SUCH a gaping hole. (Not that it still won’t be a huge blow)

Co-sign Tad. I thought him and Brandon might develop some Cali kid chemistry and be a nasty alley-oop combo for years to come. But I heard Scott Skiles doesn’t run that play.

  • rav

raps still hold delfino’s NBA rights – so delfino goes back to his personal basketball hell

@ BETCATS: The Raptors still own the Bobcats. And yes, Toronto is making the playoffs.

  • tavoris

TADOe…didn’t the Bucks get Hakeem Warwick too?

Am I the only one mourning the loss of Roko Ukic?

When I read this type of trades, it always takes me a while during the off-season to remind myself of who is playing where…

  • http://slamonline.com/ niQ

Yes Chris, Yes you are. And the fact that Roko is going to Milwaukee, he is further entering the life of obscurity.

I wonder why I’m posted under somebody named ‘tm’ with a email of mccutie_22@hotmail.com

i liked Delfino when he was playing for Raps but Amir def adds some beef where they need it. But since when does Toronto like getting less European..I thought they were on a trend here.

Will Delfino even play for Milwaukee? He didnt play for multicultural T.O. last year…so I am thinking hes not really gunna want to play in Buckland

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

Okaay, so who’s our reserve pg? Banks? JJ?

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

I don’t think Delfino would’ve suited up for the Raptors anyway, imho. He’s decent when he doesn’t shoot too much, since he’s really physical and can score anywhere, and rebounds pretty well too. But it is indeed puzzling why the Bucks didn’t give Amir a chance. Their loss, I think.

  • http://joeloholic.wordpress.com Joel O’s

What I’m wondering is why the Raptors didn’t re-sign Pops yet. It’s great that they’re adding Amir, but why not just re-sign Pops instead?

  • Cal

Amir is a better option than Pops. Not that Amir is even a starter quality player, but is a upgrade from Pops. It also allows Toronto to make the most of their bird rights on Delfino. They were able to obtain a player who makes 3 mil by trading Delfino who was asking 3-5 million a season. Other than that all they had was enough to sign someone of lesser quality to a vet minimum. So once again BC turns nothing into something, cause Delfino wasn’t going to play 3rd string behind Derozan and Wright.

  • iLL wiLL

Seriously, the past season was just forgettable. Pops offered a glimmer of hope. Let’s not go overboard here with the we-should-have-signed-pops crap.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Amir Johnson has All-Star potential. I’ll say that right now. Mensah-Bonsu should still re-up, but Amir Johnson is a great pick-up.
    @ Joel: Jarret Jack…
What Toronto needs is to NOT go more “European”, but to boost the team’s athleticism. Who cares where a player’s from? The Raptors need to get tougher.
Also, Demar DeRozan better start next year. Get this guy learning as fast as possible.

  • http://www.manutd.com Z

something must be wrond with pops’ attitude or something… everytime ive seen him, be it summer league or actual nba games, he’s EATING rim. the guy goes up with very bad intentions and looks to tear it down every single time. how can he not make a roster while sissy dudes like hollins and o’bryant keep getting checks?

I’ve played against him..on NBALive 09. Not bad at the point.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    lol @ Dacre.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Starting Line-up:
    1. Jose Calderon
    2. Demar DeRozan
    3. Hedo Turkoglu
    4. Chris Bosh
    5. Andrea Bargnani
    Reggie Evans
    Jarret Jack
    Amir Johnson
    Marco Belinelli
    Mensah-Bonsu (hopefully)
Anyways, that’s a huge improvement. Solid roster there, top 5 in the east.

  • http://www.slamonline.com wayno

I’m going on record saying that Toronto will be the 8th seed IF they make the playoffs at all. Amir Johnson is a scrub. Delfino is alot better than him.

  • Matt Mints

they have no bench..demar derozan is unproven, hedo turkoglu wont be as effective because he needs a penetrating guard to kick it out to him. jose is a pure pg. if you ask me the need a more experienced 2 that can score then they are in contention

  • http://slamonline.com The underrated one

Matt Mints, ur nsaying that jose isn’t a drive and kick type of pg? Have you seen any of his plays the last 3 years?? that’s basically all he does

Sonny Weems is the other guy in the trade…. now to just get rid of marcus banks…
