Thankfully, T-Mac Didn’t Make the ASG

The conspiracy theorist in me wants to believe David Stern (rightfully) disallowed the fans to vote in Tracy: “No longer playing for the Rockets, Tracy McGrady won’t make his next appearance on the court in the All-Star Game either. McGrady, who has played 46 minutes this season and was given a leave of absence from the Rockets while they try to trade him, had been in position to start the game throughout the balloting updates, but when the team was announced on Thursday, Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash moved past McGrady and in position to start in the Western Conference backcourt with the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant. McGrady finished fourth among West Conference guards with teammate Aaron Brooks fifth. The selections, however, did offer one potential for controversy, with Allen Iverson earning a spot in the Eastern Conference starting backcourt. Iverson, though he played in just 16 games since his return to the 76ers, averaging 14.8 points.”

Wow, I was kinda surprised by that line about T-Mac being Aaron Brooks’ teammate. I guess that shows how much time T-Mac has missed. At least for me.

  • buschfiya

    Nash deserved that spot.

  • http://theghostofroyhobbs.blogspot.com Mo Charlo

It’s because Google stopped working in China.

  • Ken

    LOL at Mo Charlo.

One choice with Controversy potential? U’re kidding, right? Amaré or whatever he’s called AND Tim Duncan got voted in over Dirk. W.t.f, voters?! Timmy i kinda accept but STAT isn’t having that great a season, not nearly as good as Dirk is. And Nowitzki has to keep on waiting for his 1st allstar start! Nuts.

  • Joe

Conspiracy Thoery? call it what it is, the “Truth Theory”

  • Nashty

Are y’all gonna blame the Chinese too about Iverson starting?

  • Charles Kirk

I hate this article. Tracy McGrady even publicly stated that if he did receive the starting spot he was going to give it up anyway. What’s the big deal.

The fans have spoken (or Stearn stuffed the ballot system). Either way, I’m happy for Nash, AI and all the other starters. I think about half of the starters are questionable as to if they deserved to get the start or not. But anytime voters or judges determine things you can debate who really deserves the recognition. Sorta like the BCS with coaches and computers picking the best teams or who get’s what seed in the NCAA. Somebody always feels they got shafted (maybe they did) and somebody always seems to get placed too high because of prior years. So, let the chips fall wear they lay and the fans have spoken.

  • erich

    @ Darksaber
You are right. Dirk is great this year again and deserves a starting spot .
But I won’t be disappointed as long as he gets his nomination from the coaches, because at least they recognize if somebody got game.

  • phildo

Then Dirk will win the MVP in front of his home crowd – play with it:-)The coaches will make sure he gets plenty of burn…

  • don

why hate on tmac for being popular?

  • don

    dirk hopefully becomes allstar mvp

I did think Timm-ey being the starter was kinda wow. especially since he wasnt that close the last update. Theres no doubt Stern and the League fixes the fans errors in the end. Only reason A.I is starting is because he had to big of a lead on a guy who wouldve raise even more suspision since he was playing horrible in 2nd place.

  • ENDS

Look at carters Votes at the end if you think im nuts. passed the million mark and he (They) made it as close as it had been since aI took the lead. Last update aI look to have an incredible lead. Im conVinced

  • coconut

    @ darksaber
Stat was voted in among West Centers, Dirk is on the forward list. I think Duncan and Melo are diserving of their spots. It’s arguable though. Dirk is having an amazing season so far.

  • therighttoremainsalient

@Darksaber – technically dirk started once before due to injury.

why hate on tmac for being popular?
    He’s not actually popular.

  • Josh

It is a game for the fans and I guess there are enough Tracy fans out there. I personally like drama and weirdness so I suggest we vote Arenas in.

  • Vince5

Thank god, I don’t agree with AI being there this year but T-Mac was just too much. Hopefully, he won’t be playing in the ASG next year too.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

    Co-sign Charles Kirk two times.

  • Ian

I really hope Kevin Durant gets in, I voted for him. No offense to Tim Duncan, but I’m surprised he’s a starter. Fans usually vote in guys like Iverson or T-Mac, but Duncan isn’t really an all-star game player. Plus, Durant has been averaging 32 ppg since Christmas.

  • BigBen

For the 12 year olds who think Wilson Chandler is a future Hall of Famer, T-Mac and Amare etc get the votes. Dirk deserves the start, Timmy deserves to be there because of the fact that he’s Timmy, and Durant should be coming off the bench. Is Durant on the ballot as a guard or a forward? I stopped voting years ago.

  • I am the walrus

@Ian :D uncan is the best power forward of all time. He deserves to be a starter…

  • Fizzbuzz

I could care less that TD is the “GPFOAT”, he doesn’t deserve to start over Dirk. I was kinda hoping Rajon Rondo would start in the East, but it was a long shot :P

at least ivy has played a bit, plus going back to the sixers is a nostalgia nod…

  • http://m.twitter.com/BeeBopLive BeeBopLIVE

Y don’t people understand that the fans vote people in no1 else, so if everybody got a problem y don’t u talk 2 the billions 4 voting, lol its not the players fault they get picked…

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

We should just stop voting and give people lifetime achievement awards. Tim Duncan is the best ever? Let him in, who cares if he’s playing nowhere near the level Dirk is playing!
Iverson’s washed up? Who cares, throw him in there! Yeahhhhh! We should vote Magic and MJ in too!

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

Take away the fan vote already. The average NBA fan is far stupider than ever before.

  • monkeyball

It’s lucky for all of us that Jukai is around to tell us how stupid we all are.

  • http://none The Philosopher

Watch him get voted in as a starter when he’s like 10 million years old.

  • Sour Milk

The all-stars should be the 12 best players in each conference regardless of positions, thus West:
    1. Bryant
    2. Anthony
    3. Nowitzki
    4. Durant
    5. Nash
    6. Paul
    7. Roy
    8. Gasol P
    9. Duncan
    10. Williams
    11. Stoudemire
    12. Billups

    13. Kaman
    14. Randolph
    15. Ellis
    16. Boozer

    1. James
    2. Wade
    3. Howard
    4. Johnson
    5. Pierce
    6. Bosh
    7. Wallace
    8. Granger
    9. Rondo
    10. Rose
    11. Iguodala
    12. Lee

    13. Jackson
    14. Allen
    15. Horford
    16. Smith J

Agree or disagree. How to make this happen? I don’t know…

  • http://fjkld.com Jukai

monkeyball: Not you. You’re stupider than the average NBA fan.

  • http://myspace.com/weezyleezy337 GametimeWeezy

average nba fan is stupider then ever before? why is that? tmac didnt get voted in, nash did…all star strting lineups are perfect, wouldnt have them any other way. if the fans wanted to see rondo start thy woulda voted him in. iverson got the nod because well, he got more fans, plain n simple.

  • Kyle

So.. what about KG .. YEEE YEEEEE! FTW!

  • Sour Milk

Sorry, KG over Iggy… I’m just a stupid fan.

  • Justin

The fact that this was even an issue and almost happened is what makes the average NBA fan stupider than ever. Jukai is right about this, the people who voted McGrady or Iverson are morons. There should have been only two real controversies and that’s Tim over Dirk and Garnett over Bosh

  • lucas

You know what’s funny? Jukai insulting peoples intellligence by using the word “stupider” lol

  • tavoris

maybe the “less stupider” fans should stop complaining and vote more often. Sure, there are a billion people in China who don’t even know that T-Mac isn’t playing-and only voted for him because he a Houston Rocket. The bigger travesty is that he was even on the ballot, considering he wasn’t expected to play anytime before Feb anyway.

    whats a t-mac?

  • rikson

AI in the ASG?! Definitely not all chinese votes… How exactly did he deserve his spot?!

  • tavoris

AI got the votes because he’s still wildly popular internationally. Also, with Rose’s slow start, Nelson’s injury, Rondo’s anonymity on the Celtics, and the fact that nobody likes Mo Williams, there weren’t many other players worth voting for. I’m not saying there aren’t more All-Star worthy players, because I don’t think he earned his spot either.

  • Sour Milk

come on. not all star worthy players to vote for? I voted wade+johnson in the east backcourt every time… think they’re all-star worthy…
