Walsh: Cap Room Good for David Lee

The idea is for the Knicks to use up their $31 mil in cap space on two superstars this summer; something Donnie claims will somehow help David Lee to remain in Gotham: “The Knicks’ extra cap room and new options, team president Donnie Walsh said, give them better odds of keeping free agent David Lee — a point that is debatable. ‘It’s much better for David,’ Walsh said before the Knicks’ 121-118 overtime loss to the Thunder last night. ‘That I’ll tell you.’ But Walsh indicated he’s still evaluating Lee, despite his All-Star selection as an injury replacement and his 30 points and 10 rebounds against Oklahoma City. ‘But for all the players on the team now, they got to show they can play intense playoff-type basketball,’ Walsh said. Walsh’s statement has holes. If the Knicks land LeBron James and another maximum free agent such as Chis Bosh, Lee’s days as a Knick will be over. However, that still is fantasy.”

I’d rather them sign one max guy, keep Lee and tmac and get a solid point mid tier point guard.

Has a team ever traded away their lottery pick during his ROOKIE YEAR? Wow, the Knicks wasted yet another draft. The trade was a good one, but man… Still makes me wonder what could have been with Jennings in New York.

Teddy, remember though, that the Knicks had Stephon Mar….I mean Chris Du….I mean Larry Hu…hey, how about that Toney Douglas?

The Knicks made plenty of mistakes. 1st they tried to convince NY that Duhon is their point guard and that they don’t need another. 2nd by drafting Jordan Hill. They’re finally realizing that it wasn’t the right move by trading him away. And I feel Sergio will slide into the starting spot soon enough.

Why is there a quotation mark at the end of the last sentence. Was that a statement by Donnie Walsh? If so, where did it start?

Nevermind. Apparently this entire post was a quote aside from the first sentence. Smh at whoever Slam has working there site these days…

Chris, since you’re so intent to shake your head on a quotation mark, may I point out how ironic it is that you misspelled “their”?

  • mad max

2010 knicks = sergio, j. johnson, t-mac, lee, boozer. with chandler, douglas, gallo, etc off bench.

I’m not sure signing Bosh is much better than keeping Lee. And T-Mac’s first game in Knicks uniform was pretty nice.

    underdog, watch your mouth
Bosh is a huge upgrade over Lee
that said I doubt he will leave toronto,
theres something to be said about being the best basketball player in a country

the should keep Lee, Sign maybe Joe Johnson or a small forward and then try sin a good point guard

lol @ knicks fans thinkin Joe wants to go to NY. He’s stayin here in the A. Keep wishin for Lebron knick fans

  • CARTEL

Donnie Walsh is trying to double talk and be slick. What he was actually saying was “we’re trying to get Lebron and whoever else we can afford to give a max contract to…we’ll then let David do his own thing and find a new team to play for because, let’s face it, we really ain’t gonna need him. But just in case we don’t get any top notch players(which is a good chance we won’t), we don’t wanna piss Dave off and cause him to choose NOT to re-sign with us, so I’m just gonna give you this bullsh*t statement to occupy your thoughts”…
