Dwyane Wade’s Struggles Helped Doom the Miami Heat in Game 3

by Marcel Mutoni @marcel_mutoni

Just about everything went wrong for the Miami Heat in Indiana last night: they once again went into battle without Chris Bosh, shuffled lineups, Mario Chalmers of all people was their leading scorer, and Dwyane Wade played arguably the worst Playoff game of his illustrious career.

The Heat are now staring down a 2-1 hole against the Indiana Pacers, who increasingly believe they can take out Miami and its stars.

DWade had no answers for his miserable performance in Game 3, and no one on the Heat would admit whether or not he’s playing with some kind of injury.

From the Miami Herald and ESPN:

Wade was 2 of 13 from the field with five points. He started the game 1 of 10 and scored his first basket with 10:22 left in the game. “There were a lot of reasons for it,” Wade said. “I guess I made history tonight. It was a bad night.” Wade appeared to be playing with a hand injury, but Spoelstra, James and Wade divulged nothing after the game. “He’s too good a player to have shooting nights like he had [Thursday night],” Pacers coach Frank Vogel said of Wade.

Wade is still dealing with lingering injuries that forced him to miss several games late in the regular season, and the Miami Heat guard required treatment in recent days for knee and leg soreness, sources said. “At this point of the season,” Wade said when asked after Thursday’s loss if he was affected by an injury, “no one is 100 percent.” [...] “We’re not going to win a ballgame with Chris Bosh out and me scoring five points, obviously. There’s frustration in that.”

Prior to last night’s big win, Pacers forward Danny Granger said the pressure in the series was on Indiana to protect their homecourt. At this point, however, Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat aren’t just facing pressure. It’s a matter of survival.

I don’t think the heat are mentally tough enough to get out of a 3-1 hole. Next game can determine the series as far as I am concerned. They are not in a good head space right now. Anyone else think hormones are what’s making Dwade all crazy? I remember reading somewhere that baseball players who were juicing used to get big heads and jaws and well, just compare the dude to 4 years ago…

  • Sizzle

Trading Wade is a dumb suggestion at this point. If Bosh was healthy, this wouldn’t even be a discussion. Bosh is the biggest piece to the Miami puzzle because he gives them an inside/outside versatile threat. Without him, the defense can just load up the lane on Wade and Bron. Too early again to write off the Bosh/Wade/Bron experiment as a failure.

  • The Truth

Why does d wade get all this respect? He’s an undersized aging slashing SG with athletic skills diminishing. He’s been in the league 10 years, that’s a lot of wear and tear.

Yeah he won a title back in 06 with a stacked team with players in their prime and all he did was shoot 300 free throws to win it.

Weren’t the heat 15-1 with wade out of the line up this year?

  • KidCongo

I thought Wade trained with a ninja in the offseason. Doesn’t play like a ninja though.

  • AQWORD

Look at all the chumps paniking & hatas frothing at the minge.

  • t-sizzle

The Heat will still win the series, but it won’t be in the least bit easy.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

Never believed Spoelstra was/is the guy to lead this group.
Especially after the Rudy Gay game winner last year.

  • http://slamonline.com The Philosopher

WHILE he had a timeout… that he forgot about.

  • neaorin

Haven’t read any other sports sites today… did they blame this loss on LeBron yet?

  • t-sizzle

Go read them and find out, jerk.

What, did people think Indiana werent going to get a win on their home court in the first playoff game? All the sudden the sky is falling.

  • t-sizzle

Hey Diesel, how bout them Bulls?

  • MUBWAR

eboy is depressed like any real heat fan. i was depressed from the day we lost Bosh. He was abusing hibbert in that 1st half, taking him off the dribble for an and-1s and stroking that j. Now hibbert and west refused to leave the paint. hope bosh comes back or this will be a quick summer, if the pacers the C’s 4 sure.

  • Genuis

There are a lot of you idiots that dont know a thing about basketball, i see comments about him dropping a deuce on his coach…thats a apart of the game no player/coach has a perfect relationship ..things happen that doesnt make dwade unprofessional or any less of a classy athlete. As for his performance he knows and the world knows he can play better and he will play better coming from someone who could care less about the heat. I jus hope that when he starts playing “normally” again u guys dont jump back on his d****

Hey Lakey Lake! Your mom was a lil dry last night but that wasn’t what killed our mood. What killed it for us was hearing you and your dad sword fight in the next room.

  • Lower East Scribe

Hey guys who else is still high off that Bull’s loss?

  • http://www.crappyrappers.com Simon Caine

D-Wade is finished. He looks worse than Fat Jump-Shooter Jordan when he came back for the Wizards.

  • IndyB

That was tough team playoff basketball. Good things are happening in Indiana on the defensive end… Feeling like 1993-94 all over again.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

Sword fighting does get a little noisy… Sorry if we ruined anything fella.

@Fat I said castaways (Gerald Green, Stephen Jackson) and 2nd round picks (Tony Parker and Ginobili) You must have missed the 2nd round pick part.

Lakeshow handles trollz better than anyone in the slam community.

  • MrAir239

Why does everybody including heat fans hate d-wade now? He has one inefficient game where he was obviously either frustrated with his not making shots or something else. Yes he’s aging but, that doesn’t mean he’s washed up. He’s had to step-back his game for two other stars. If you play a certain way for a lot of years, wouldn’t it be weird to change it? If he stays mentally tough, he’s the best player in the NBA. I mean, cmon people, the heat are only down 2-1 in a 7 game series.

  • Scott

Lakeshow handles everything. D*cks, balls, basketballs. Everything.

  • http://slamonline.com LakeShow

    Scott would know ;)

  • fruizm

    whats going on?? haha!

  • roybot

Wade, Haslem, Battier, Mike Miller all on the decline. Crazy how much they missing Bosh right now, plus LeBrons playing like an old man. Will be sad to see the King go ringless for another season

  • BostonBaller

Miami is not dead….and how the winds blow when teams look bad? lol. Wade had a horrible game but LBJ didn’t light it up either. he had 22 but more than a few were garbage late game shots he had 1 less TO than Wade (4 to 5) 2 more assts (3 to 1) and 2 more rbs. LBJ had 1 more elbow than Wade also. Breakaway foul by Indy (holding LBJ’s jersey) and LBJ throws a bow towards the head that did not connect. He tried to play it off and we will see if the office calls him on it. The didn’t earlier in the series. Don’t get me wrong, LBJ is a Beast that most players are afraid to D up but don’t count out Wade. I’d still give him the ball with little time on the clock as LBJ tends to shy away unless the moment is set up just right. IMO. GO Celtics !!

  • Moxabanshi

Fall down 5 times. Ask for 7 fouls.

  • Scalabrine for MVP

What do you guys think of the heat amnestying bosh and signing Dwight. I heard a rumor about that. I was wondering what you guys thought.

  • Justin G.

Bosh is not getting traded and Spoelstra is not getting fired if the Heat lose. If anything, Bosh’s value to the team is pretty apparent and I don’t think you can put the losses on the coach considering the injury situation. That’s like saying Thibs’ job is in jeopardy since they lost in the first round.

  • BostonBaller

Bosh will always be the 3rd wheel when the Heat are winning and his value goes up in situations such as this. That’s how it goes…popularity drives a lot of fans and their opinions….not knowledge of the game..
