Phoenix Suns Reportedly Win Amnesty Auction For Luis Scola

The Rockets waived Luis Scola so they could clear space for Dwight Howard, and it looks like the Phoenix Suns have taken full advantage, winning the amnesty auction and picking up the power forward for the next few seasons. Per ESPN: “The Phoenix Suns have won the amnesty auction for former Houston Rockets forward Luis Scola, according to sources with knowledge of the auction outcome. The NBA’s 30 teams were notified shortly after 5 p.m. ET on Sunday that the Suns won the blind bidding for Scola, which requires interested teams under the salary cap to bid no less than $3 million for this season and $10-plus million for the next three seasons. It was not immediately known how many teams placed bids on Scola beyond the Suns and the Dallas Mavericks.”

Not sure if this is a smart move. Seemed to me a team that usually likes to walk the ball up and run sets would pick him up considering his superb post game instead of the run and gun Suns.

  • ChipS

They just amnestied Josh Childress, likely making room for OJ Mayo. Steve Nash gone, bring in Dragic,Beasley,Scola and possibly Mayo. Not a bad start imo.

  • Wet

The suns don’t have to play run and gun this year, and dragic will be familiar with scola. I think it’s a great pick up.

So the Suns are STILL gonna have to spend a small fortune on hair grease??

  • Oli

looks like the rebuilding in phx didn’t take as long as expected. dragic, (mayo), dudley, scola & gortat with marshall, beasley, warrick, frye & morris off the bench. not too bad.

What Wet said – their old offense left with Nash. Now they can rebuild according to who they have on their team.

Good move for the suns, they have really assemble some nice talent. I believe Mayo will be headed to Phoenix as well so they have had an underrated summer.

  • Heals

Was bummed for Scola at first as I thought he coulda made a big difference for a contender, but Chip brings up a good point…

So whilst nash took my hopes and crushed my heart a little. I love what this new look sun’s team could do. If beZley can stAy off the grass and get back thE .mean streak this could be a nice season for them.
    I’m happy today.

I wonder if there is a possible three way trade here. phx phi la ? anyone?

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

@ J. Taylor- I like that…. Who starts, Scola or Frye??

  • kobesBESTfriend

this guy looks like Razor Ramon

Getting childless out also proves they are seriously looking at being better. And Goran and rookie kendall will be the best young pg combo this season.

    Suns looking fairly good.

  • zen master

If they get a decent SG they´ll be in playoffs, Gentry is a very good coach.

Agree with ChipS here. Would be nice if they can get Mayo. That’s a pretty good starting 5 to have,

  • IndyB

Nice to have him off the bench.

  • http://www.dimemag.com showtime

yea but it just 7th seed @ best in the west un less Oj or b-easy have a break out type year..

  • Donte

    ^^^ which is highly doubtful^^^

  • justin05

I agree with donte. highly doubtful @ 7. All of a sudden Beasley is going to contribute for the Suns? He still smokes that reefer let’s get real.

  • http://slam flight9

    nice pick up by Suns.

  • ChipS

Making the playoffs would be a nice start for them. That’s the first thing rebuilding teams needs to shoot for. Being a 7th or 8th seed would be a great start for that franchise.

  • http://slamonline BossTerry

On the other hand, wtf is Houston thinking? They have 1 decent player, 1 guy worth any value in a trade, and they waive him..

  • Trilla

The Suns are gonna be an exciting team to watch got damn.

  • http://www.yahoo.com The Fury

    West gonna be wild again.

  • http://www.nba.com Dacre

    I certainly hope so trilla.
Regarding beasley. He’s 1 year of maturity away from being a major relevant force again.
    C Marcin Gortat
    PF Scola
    SF Beasley
    SG Dudley
    PG Dragic
1st five with Lopez. Frye. Morris. Mayo (if they get him or another high calibre wing) and Randall off the bench is actually decent. If that team gels then there is a good push for a playoff spot.

  • Ardy

    Poor Scola…

  • wixursss

They won’t make the playoffs but they’ll be a fun young team to watch. Now they need new uniforms to go with their fresh start. Scola sounded like he wanted to clear waivers but that’s amnesty i guess.

  • RunNGun

Good pick up but that front court is crowded. Something’s gotta give.

If Marshall can come in and run that second unit effectively they’ll be pretty decent I think, especially if they can land Mayo. Him, Dragic and Beaseley could elevate this team to another level in a year or 2
