Ben Gordon Reportedly on Trade Block Following Incident With Coach Mike Dunlap

The Charlotte Bobcats are reportedly looking to unload Ben Gordon (who makes $12.4 million this season, and guaranteed $13.2 mil in 2013-’14.) According to Yahoo! Sports, Gordon completely disrespected head coach Mike Dunlap at a recent practice, and the team would like to move the guard prior to next week’s trade deadline: “As Dunlap led the Bobcats in a morning shootaround on Monday before a victory over the Celtics, Gordon refused Dunlap’s request to stop bouncing a ball as the coach spoke, sources said. Before long, Gordon began baiting Dunlap, telling him that he needed to ‘humble himself,’ sources said. Gordon refused to give the ball to Dunlap, and eventually tossed it toward a ball rack, sources said. Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins was in the practice session and ultimately intervened, sources said. ‘Beyond disrespectful,’ was how one league source described the scene. The front office didn’t suspend Gordon, a decision sources said was based in part on the belief the incident would diminish his trade value so close to the league’s deadline next Thursday. The Brooklyn Nets are still mulling an offer to trade forward Kris Humphries for Gordon, but have thus far been unmoved over the possibility Gordon can make an impact for them, sources said.”

That’s one way of putting yourself on the trade block without talking to anyone…

  • Redd

    I’d want out too lol.

  • Solito

Gordon couldn’t make an impact if he tripped over his feet on top of a flight of stairs…

    Is this out of character?
Never heard of him being a stubborn lil’ ass like this before.

On another note. Did ya’ll realize, Ben Gordon has hit over 40% of his 3 Pt. FG’s every year in his 9 year career except one… That’s surprising to me. He never seemed that solid from deep… A team could use his talents… but not his contract.

This is something that happens in high school, definitely shouldn’t happen in the NBA. Ben Gordon hasn’t been really worth even talking about since he left Chicago.

the problem is finding someone worth trading him for. the only 3 teams that really make sense with comparable players, don’t need a SG more than the guy they’d give up (Brooklyn with Kardashian, Chicago with Boozer, and Toronto with Bargnani).

This definitely does seem out of character, but man Ben Gordon was lighting it up that last season in Chicago, especially in that epic seven game first round series against Boston.

When scrubs like him act like pre-Madonnas you know your team is garbage.

  • SAnba14

C’mon man, you make 12million dollars to play basketball. The least he could do is not bounce the ball when his coach is speaking

  • TBRK

HE NEVER SEEMED SOLID FROM DEEP?????? are you serious, you never watched him then…definitely never saw him at UConn. Dude has as pure a stroke as there is in the business, watch his elbows and release forget about his legs

  • TBRK

Ben Gordon went from one graveyard (Detroit) to another (Charlotte) he needs to see the light again. Derrick Rose will vouch. He was the BEST Chicago Bull on the floor during the 08 playoffs. The guy can flat out light it up, give him the rock and let him shoot, plus I don’t think I can mention 5 guys in the league who have more of a killer instinct than him….plus he is the inventor of the ‘three goggles’……I’m telling you the Heat should’ve went after Ben Gordon instead of Ray Allen….Give this brother another chance in the light is what I think I’m trying to say

  • TBRK

now for cats whining about him acting out….okay imagine yourself spending the past 5 years of your life playing basketball in Detroit and Charlotte….stuff like that will make a man depressed let alone irritable

  • LakeShow

You missed the “that” in your quote. “That” implies 40%+ from deep.

He has had some down years over the last 5, so I assumed he had some down years at shooting from deep. Nope.

    Plus he’s seemed like a jacker…
    And he is…

So honestly, you thought that he has shot over 40% 3 Pt. FG’s for 8 of his 9 seasons? You honestly knew that?

I mean I know he’s one of the best 3 point shooters in the L, but so is JR Smith…

  • TheUnspokenTruth

Kinda hard to threaten a player with trade scenarios when you’re Charlotte. “Hey, you better knock it off, or else we’ll keep you here!”

  • clydesays

Why does Jordan put together expensive parts & bad draft picks. He needs to hire some decent scouting talent for college, international players & the pros. A GM that knows what he’s doing would help too…

  • KingBenjamin

I would LOVE to see him return back to Chicago, but there’s no way that’s going to happen with that huge contract.

  • Chukaz

The ’08 playoffs were almost 5 years ago. He hasn’t done anything of note since he left chicago. As for the heat getting him over ray allen, i’d argue that Allen might still be the better player AND they got him for 3 mil a year instead of 12 mil.

    true, he’s got no respect

  • RKJ92

Trade Bargs, 2 future first round draft picks, for Ben Gordon and 2014 first round pick maybe? then force Gordon to just assume John Lucas’s role since he isn’t a very good distributer, or defender at the pg spot anyways? I’m sure Gordon would do a better job anyways.

  • Max

He’ss a solid shooter from deep, especially when he’s on. But damn, I didn’t know he was that efficient from there.

  • The Philosopher

He assaulted a female while on campus at the University of Connecticut…
