NBA Players React to Heat’s Game 7 Victory

A tweetcap.

There were 1,313 games played in ’12-13, and man, did the Heat and Spurs punctuate the season in epic fashion. In what will be considered one of the greatest NBA Finals series in recent history, the Miami Heat topped the San Antonio Spurs 95-88 in the deciding win in Miami. LeBron James led the way with 37 points, matching the all-time record for points in an NBA Finals Game 7. Shane Battier dropped 18 points on six threes off the bench to help Miami secure the win.

Check out how a bunch of NBA players reacted—arrow to the right to follow the reactions from beginning-to-end, or head left and watch players dissect the action in reverse order from end-to-beginning. If you missed any of the action, check out our Game 7 Live Blog.

Awesome finals. Amazing game. And there’s this: http://twitpic.com/cyatwn

Obviously one of the greatest finals ever, great performance by Lebron and all that…..but, this was by far the WORST Defense played on an MVP i’ve seen in my life! If only Gary Payton, John Starks, Pippen, any of the Pistons bad boys were on the Spurs team! Lebron woulda had 8 points! He’s the MVP! someone guard him!! He’s way too good to be played like that! Awful D!

Awful D! It aint his fault though that they played awful D on him….he stepped up big and hit those WIDE open shots…

Easier said than done. Guard him close and he goes to the basket easily. What the Spurs did is all they could do…stand back and hope he misses jumpshots. Tonight, he made them. Nothing they could really do. It was pretty much the same defense they’ve played the entire series, but he was missing or not wanting to take those shots. He’s streaky. He jut got hot tonight. Once he and Battier got started and Ginobili had more bad turnovers, the game was over.

I loved this series. I’ll be comparing this finals to the finals to come.

  • Shooting Guard

not true, that boy’s size, weight and speed alone is a HUGE problem for any defense

  • Shooting Guard

I always look forward to MWP’s comments, they should put them together on a seperate page

  • Max

The Spurs are the only team all year who made Lebron look like a mortal.

  • Max

    Haha the great scoreless one!

I just knew Shane Battier would get on fire again after game 6, it sure took long enough to get to that point. The lucky bankshot was the shot to give him some confidence!

  • The Mighty FV

Amazing series, amazing game 7, can’t help thinking something went down to get it to here though – I just don’t feel right about it and I don’t support either team.

I agree. Lebron’s size and basketball knowledge is legendary no doubt….but that’s whyyyy u have to double him, get in his face, talk trash give him an elbow in the stomache do something different! He’s the best player in the world, u can’t leave him WIDE open like that ALL game! Especially in the dying minutes of the game! Make someone else take the shot! I’m not hatin on Lebron I’m hatin on what the game has become! Show me some damn defence’n throw your elbows out man!
Parker shoulda been the one drivin on that Ginobili play….

  • OfftheWall87

Double him and he passes to Ray Allen, Mike Miller, Shane Battier, and Mario Chalmers. Get in his face and he blows by you. Talk trash and you get him going like Lance Stephenson did in the last series. The Spurs are a great defensive team. They did what they could do. Just didn’t work last night. If LeBron is making shots, he’s unstoppable. Parker was 3-12 so it wasn’t his night.

Reggie Evans said “dude getting something under the table”. lol

Dude the Spurs played defense as well as they could. They played the same defense for the whole series and dared LBJ to do what he did last night, make jumpers. At some point you have to give credit to the MVP. I mean he is the MVP for a reason. He showed up big last night and no one was getting in his way.

  • David

Well, they did have to play 6 games first. So you’re not wrong…

  • Duke

I don’t know why this is being considered a great series. 2,3,4,5 were all duds. 6 and 7 were awesome, but the series as a whole wasn’t.

  • Reed

Without Chris Bosh, there’s no “Game 7″, the same goes for Jesus so their zero points are “well deserved” if I may :p

  • bike

Daring LeBron to beat them w/ outside shooting worked before. Not last night. It’s a gamble. Frankly, he’s at a level that’s pretty close to unstoppable.

  • Teddy-the-Bear

Best finals of my generation. J Thompson was spot on.

    Did you watch?

thank you. those zero’s points are nothing compared to the heroics of these 2 in game 6

  • Enigmatic

I’m just trying to figure out if that’s a chick or a dude in a wig to the right of LeBron…

  • 1982

Game 1 down to the wire. Game 2 the Heat came to play. Game 3 the Spurs get payback. Games 4-5 things got sloppy and you could tell both sides were running on empty. Games 6-7 CLASSIC. “If you don’t like that you don’t like NBA basketball.”

Nobody’s gettin what i’m tryin ta say….Just watch some film of old school (real) D then maybe you’ll understand my point of view.

I ain’t sayin Lebron is a bad player….he is the MVP and well deserved MVP no doubt. I’m just sayin, you have got to play the MVP differently on D, especially when the Finals is on the line!

Lebron said it after the game, he said i watched film of the first 6 games and Spurs were givin me the OPEN shots! Spurs D became too predictable for the MVP, he got hot and the damn game is on the line….Do something DIFFERENT! Spurs didnt do nothin different and gave him his 20th WIDE open shot of the night….again! Credit to him (after focusing on the shot for like 5 seconds coz he was that OPEN) he hit the shot!

Double him make him pass make someone else be the damn hero…probablity that the MVP hits the shot must be higher than anybody else no matter how the rest of team was shootin all night! If MJ missed all 20 of his shots allll night….u still double him for the last second shot! coz he’s gonna make it! Same with all the greats!

Anyways…it doesn’t really matter. Congrats to LBJ, Dwade and the Heat…..Too bad Finals are over
