Royce White is Unhappy With Lack of Playing Time

The Royce White situation in Houston is a dicey one. In addition to the rookie’s anxiety disorder, there’s chatter now that White is frustrated about his complete lack of playing time. Reports the Houston Chronicle: “With White blaming the Rockets for failing to consistently support his treatment for anxiety issues, White is being fined every day he remains away from the team or fails to attend sessions with a therapist the Rockets have arranged for him, a person with knowledge of the situation said. White and Rockets general manager Daryl Morey have declined interview requests. White began to express his dissatisfaction a week ago, according to the person familiar with talks, initially complaining about a lack of opportunity to earn playing time. White met extensively with Rockets general manager Daryl Morey assistant coach J.B. Bickerstaff and assistant strength and conditioning coach Dave Macha last Wednesday, and again with Morey on Thursday. White has not played in any game this season and has been on the inactive list for the past four games. Morey told White in those meetings that other players had earned playing time before him. White, however, argued that he was not given enough opportunity to demonstrate that he could earn a place in the rotation, increasingly saying the Rockets were holding his anxiety disorder against him and that he was being treated as a commodity, a position he has repeated in Tweets following Tuesday’s reports about White missing practices. White attended Friday’s morning shootaround and game in Memphis, traveling in a recreational vehicle as part of his agreement with the team to manage the anxiety that comes with his fear of flying. White, however, did not attend practices on Sunday or Tuesday and skipped Monday’s game against the Heat. Morey had planned to discuss sending White to the Rockets NBA Development League affiliate along with fellow rookies Scott Machado and Donatas Motiejunas, but has not seen him to have that conversation.”

    Rockets wasted a draft pick on this guy. Sorry for his disability, sorry for the Rockets, but sometimes things don’t work out.

    He argues that he has not been given enough opportunity to demonstrate that he could earn a place in the rotation yet he doesn’t show up to practises…

    There’s people with REAL life and death type of problems in this world, and this dude has the world at his fingertips if you really look at the amount of money pro athletes make, and he’s actin like a …. I can’t put it in any other sense, he’s being a b*#$h

    Yo somebody get Royce White on the phone … Tell’em the Shock Exchange has been ridin’ for him ever since he signed with the University of Minnesota. Cut the nonsense dude. You’re a professional now guy. Go to your therapy sessions, report to practice, whatever the Rockets ask of you, then go out on the court and get your “George McGinness” on. The Shock Exchange is tired of waiting.

    Actually, an on point comment.

    I really like Roy and I wish him nothing but the best, but… The Rockets aren’t playing ANY of their rookies–this is not a personal vendetta against Roy. How does he think Terrence Jones feels? Jones is probably their best rookie and he showed it during pre-season but he hasn’t seen a minute of playing time… He needs to stay levelheaded, and understand that he’s a long term prospect… He can still learn a lot without playing.

    this guy has got to realize that he’s an employee and that he should show up at work.. travel arrangements put aside.

  • Cameron

    Worse than Delonte?

  • Max

    Terrence Jones isn’t getting any playing time either;

    This guy has a mental anxiety problem, yet, he wont stop firing words on twitter, like that would do any justice. He goes on and on like someone who is desperate. I told him @highway_30 that he needs to suck it up and get on that plane and show up to work like many of us do, shoot, i have to be at work at 0615, ready to do some physical training, if i dont show up, the us army will punish me one way or another. I also told this guy, why he even went to training camp?? why even put your name on the draft?? is he thinking he could travel everywhere by bus?? that will be almost impossible, but possible in some ways. Im really confused about this guy and pissed off, ’cause i mean, if he is scared of getting on an airplane, then why even go to the draft knowing the rigors of the nba….I would love to tell him if he would like to change jobs with me, come take up my job of being a soldier and i’ll travel with the rockets, i’ll be the last guy on the bench, shoot, you know what, the rockets can pay me 5,000 a month, i’ll save them money and they will not waste their draft pick. See @highway_30 some of us would appreciate that golden chance to be insde of an NBA stadium and shoot some hoops with the greatest of this decade. man up

  • A money

    It’s not responsible for white to complain on twitter

    ignorance of what ? a first world problem ? I’m gonna be unsympathetic to his plight, because I’ve seen, lived and dealt with REAL problems in life that you could touch with your hands and see with your eyes, and not something I’ve convinced myself of in my own head. Besides you need to go read some of this guy’s interviews to get a better picture of who he is and what he’s about instead of calling me ignorant. I’ve done that before making my statement above and it’s why I made it, because he comes off completely convinced that most people have mental disorders, he’s borderline delusional… read his latest interview over at Grantland before you say anything else…. I have no problems against mentally handicapped people or others with similar issues, what I do have problems with is giant cry babies who create problems in their own head convincing themselves it’s real….. you have to read but a single interview with this kid and you’ll see he falls under that category
